
福井県丸岡町(現坂井市)出身。5歳より故・黒木京子女史よりピアノの手ほどきを受ける。1996年、国際交流事業派遣員として渡米。帰国後、桐朋学園大学音楽学部演奏学科を首席で卒業し、同時にNTTドコモ賞受賞。
同大学在学中より第67回日本音楽コンクールピアノ部門第2位をはじめ、第4回かずさアカデミア音楽コンクール第1位、第1回東京音楽コンクールピアノ部門第2位など、多数の主要な国内コンクールで優勝・入賞を果たす。さらに第51回マリア・カナルス国際音楽コンクール(スペイン)ピアノ部門第3位、第23回ポッツォーリ国際ピアノコンクール(イタリア)最高位(1位なしの2位)およびロータリー特別賞を受賞、これらの実績から江戸川区文化奨励賞を最年少で受賞する。
2002年のデビューリサイタル(日本ショパン協会主催・東京文化会館小ホール)以降は各地で様々なソロ活動を展開しながら、故ジャン・フルネ(指揮者)、小林研一郎(指揮者)、伊藤京子(ピアニスト)、マイケル・ダウス(ヴァイオリニスト)各氏等、ハンガリー国立フィルハーモニー管弦楽団、チボリオーケストラ等と多岐に渡り共演。
近年は現代曲の国内初演やテレビドラマの吹き替え及び演技指導などジャンルを超えたアーティストとのコラボレーションに取り組み、同郷の作曲家である今川節(いまがわせつ)の音源化プロジェクトにも携わる。
これまでに大野眞嗣、広瀬康の両氏等に師事し、マルタ・アルゲリッチ、ディーナ・ヨッフェ各氏等のレッスンも受講。
現在、桐朋学園大学音楽学部および洗足学園音楽大学ピアノ科非常勤講師。

Fumio KAWAMURA is originally from Maruoka-cho town (current Sakai-shi city), Fukui Prefecture. He started learning to play the piano at the age of five under the late Kyoko Kuroki. In 1996, he went to the USA as a representative member of cultural exchange program. After coming back to Japan, he graduated from the Toho Gakuen School of Music (Department of Music Performance) with honors and also won the NTT DoCoMo Award. While still a student in Japan, he took home numerous first and other prizes for excellence from various competitions in Japan including second place at the 67th Music Competition of Japan, first prize at the 4th Kazusa Akademia Music Competition, and second place at the 1st Tokyo Music Competition. He then won third place at the 51st International Competition for Musical Performance Maria Canals de Barcelona in Spain, was the highest-ranking contestant (second place without first) at the 23rd International Piano Competition Ettore Pozzoli in Italy, and was also awarded the Rotary Special Prize. His successful accomplishments being recognized, he became the youngest winner of the Cultural Prize of Edogawa Ward (Tokyo).
Since his debut recital at Tokyo Bunka Kaikan Hall in 2002, sponsored by The Frederic Chopin Society of Japan, giving solo recitals in various places, he has performed with a number of well-known conductors, artists and orchestras such as Jean Fournet (late Conductor), Kenichiro Kobayashi (Conductor), Kyoko Ito (Pianist), Michael Dauth (Violinist), the Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Tivoli Symphony Orchestra (Denmark).
During recent years, he has been proactively engaged in collaboration work with artists in different genres, giving first time performances of contemporary music in Japan, playing to dub popular TV drama and instructing a well-known actor for his role as a pianist. In addition, he takes part in a project to make a CD of Setsu Imagawa, a composer from his hometown. He has taken lessons by famous Martha Argerich and Dina Yoffe and is currently studying under the musical giants, Yasushi Hirose and Shinji Ono.
He is currently teaching undergraduate students in the Toho Gakuen School of Music and the Senzoku Gakuen College of Music as a part-time instructor.
